FilmNeverDie Shooters - An interview with Lisa Davies

So, where do you come from & what do you do for a living?

I was born right here in Melbourne. At the moment I get by through serving food, making coffee and picking up different photographic jobs, however I am aiming to have my own career in photography.

How young are you? even if you are old in age we believe you are young in heart, because you still want to shoot film :D

I am 22 years young and (hopefully) have many more years to take many more images.

How did you become inspired to shoot on film?

I started to become really interested in photography in High School, about year 8. We had a photography class where we shot on 35mm and developed our own images in the school’s darkroom. We studied the greats like Ansel Adams and Edward Weston and I loved their black and white imagery. I studied photography through to year 12 and then after High School completed a Bachelor’s Degree in photography at Deakin University. I grew to learn more and love more about film photography as I took several classes based around different formats, from 35mm slide film to large format.

What format do you shoot? 35mm, Polaroid, 8 x 10 etc

I shoot any format I can get my hands on basically (which would also include digital!). In terms of film, I own a 35mm, Polaroid land camera, Polaroid 600, Instax Mini, Instax Wide, a Diana F+ and a Hasselblad 500C, which would have to be my favourite!

Why do you like this format?

I like medium format in particular because of the size of the negative and because I just think the images look super nice and natural.

Where do you see the future of analogue photography?

I don’t think analogue photography is going to die out any time in the near future considering its comeback and the sheer number of photographers I’ve seen in the industry who utilise it. The film movement is pretty large and it’s because film is rewarding, fun and has a special quality to it that digital just doesn’t have. So let’s hope the future is bright!

What is a dream project that you want to work on?

My dream project in life is to travel around the globe and create a collection of interesting images, film and digital, which depict the natural beauty and peculiarities of the world.

Where can we find out more about your work?
