    Description:

    Developed in 1994, the G1 was positioned as a competitor to the Leica M6 - but it was competing on pretty unfair and very different terms. The G1 is an autofocusing rangefinder—a claim that is only matched by one other camera in history: its successor, the G2.

    This distinction makes the Contax G1 stand out in the realm of purely manual focus, purely manual operation rangefinders, such as the Leicas and Bessas many are familiar with, but it also positions it as an interesting alternative to SLRs and fixed-lens compacts. read more

    Review;

    "I think the essence of what makes this camera so special to me is twofold: its simplicity and its versatility."

    Its beautiful all-titanium body has a truly timeless design. It weighs a reassuringly hefty amount, but remains easy to use and tote around thanks to its compact size. To me, this was the main reason the G1 was so appealing. The ability to use a set of sublime Carl Zeiss lenses and carry it all in an already packed messenger bag was what caused me to take this camera almost everywhere I went. read more
