The PENTAX K1000 is the successor of the beautifully made Pentax Spotmatic. It is probably the most iconic film camera out there and is usually recommended for photography students and beginners. This is for a good reason as this camera strips you down to the bare minimum needed to take beautiful pictures. It is equally well made as the Spotmatic series and is perfect for someone looking for a reliable, well-built film camera with the addition of a bayonet mount which makes it easier to quickly swap lenses. It boasts a full-metal construction with virtually no internal electronics to worry about. The metal built also gives it an amazing feel in hand without being too heavy. Focusing is done manually. The viewfinder is bright and big.
The lens is a beautiful Super Multi Coated Takumar with arguably one of the best coatings on any 50mm lenses. The aperture opens all the way to 1.4 which means you can shoot low light and get amazing bokeh.
The Pentax K1000 was manufactured for twenty-one years from 1976 to 1997, with over three million units sold!
Due to the age of the older K1000 their light meters tend to be burnt out. Fortunately this is not too much of an issue as these cameras function fine without batteries. This mechanical reliability is one of the main advantages of the Pentax K1000. To meter a scene before taking a picture just use an external light-meter or a light-meter app on your phone (we recommend myLightmeter), or alternatively the foolproof sunny-16 rule.
