Minolta XE-5 35mm SLR camera with Minolta MD Rokkor 50mm f/1.2 Lens
Included in this kit:
1) Minolta XE-5 SLR Body
2) Minolta MD Rokkor 50mm f/1.2 Lens
One look at the Minolta XE-5 and you will really understand it when people say that they just don't make things like they used to. A hefty, solid chunk of machined metal, the XE-5 has beautifully made buttons and dials, and you can tell just by holding onto it that like many things made in Minolta's golden 70s era, it was very much built to last.
A byproduct of Minolta's collaboration with Leica, it shares the shutter mechanism made with some help from Copal as Leica's R3 SLR. The shutter advance is so wonderfully smooth, and the 'clink' of the shutter incredibly satisfying.
The Minolta XE-5 was first introduced in 1975, and is practically the same as its more expensive sibling, the XE-7 with a few relatively minor features removed. The double exposure and film advance indicator are both gone, however, the key components that matter remain the same.
The on/off switch is at the rear of the camera, while the traditional hot-shoe is at the top of the finder. The body is finished in matte silver with a black wrap, while the prism housing is all black.
The accompanying lens, the MD Rokkor 50 mm f/1.2 is the successor of the legendary MC Rokkor-PG 58mm f/1.2, a.k.a. the “bokeh king”. It uses a slightly different optical design, and is smaller and lighter. The change from MC to MD in this case also meant going from 8 to 6 aperture blades. Rendering images with beautiful depth and and contrast, this lens develops beautiful images.
