Shot on Nana Camera with Mr Negative 500T film

My initial few uses of the Nana Cam I’ll admit, got off to a slightly shaky start. But I often find that to be part and parcel of the process. The process I refer to here is that of familiarizing yourself with your instrument. Live music settings were a great environment within which to really put her through the testing phase. Once I could wrap my head around the default aperture of f/11 and understand her responses to hard and soft natural light, the next test would be flash photography in low light/fluorescent lighting.

In summation, Nana offers consistent, pocket sized versatility in a sleek body. Without a flash and in raw natural light she can achieve surprising depth and detail with film in the 100-200 iso range. I would highly recommend pairing with 400-500 iso for anything in low light or strictly for flash.

Heading into the Project with Cherrie, I knew there would be challenges within the frame whilst trying to shoot at dusk and the primary light source being behind the subject. But the combination of f/11 aperture, low light and Nana’s flash come together to layer and compliment the composition so well. Shooting in the water at a range of 4 feet created some lovely vignettes whilst adding those dreamy/moody tones at the focal point of the frame.

All in all, Nana is the gift that keeps giving in a compact, point and shoot camera. I continue to remain excited and surprised as I put her through the motions of street, portraiture and live music photography
