Pavlos Kozalidis: A Life Dedicated to Classical Photography
Pavlos Kozalidis often tells me:
"Show them the food. Once they taste it, they will know."
This simple yet profound analogy perfectly captures the essence of his philosophy: a truly great photograph speaks for itself.
Now based in Athens, Greece, Kozalidis has dedicated his life’s work to the art of Classical Photography—capturing unposed and unmanipulated scenes. This approach mirrors what we now know as street photography, but with a timeless, purist dedication to authenticity.
For over 40 years, Kozalidis has traveled the world, pouring his life savings into perfecting his craft. With more than 500,000 images and counting under his belt and a lifetime spent working on long term project, his work truly speaks for itself. His relentless pursuit of excellence is a testament to the Shokunin spirit—the philosophy of mastering a craft with dedication and heart.
On a fateful summer day a few years ago, Kozalidis found himself in Melbourne, visiting a friend recovering from cancer. By chance, he wandered into the FilmNeverDie shop and struck up a conversation that blossomed into a lasting friendship.
That summer, he generously offered to give a free talk about his work at FilmNeverDie, sharing insights into his journey and passion for photography. Since then, we’ve had the privilege of collecting Kozalidis’ prints, which now proudly adorn the walls of our shop—a testament to his incredible artistry and our shared love of film photography.
Stop by and see his work for yourself. Just like Kozalidis says, “Show them the food. Once they taste it, they will know.”
Thanks for all your support in 2024! 🙏
As we welcome 2025, we’re gearing up for something exciting—a Shot on Nana exhibition, likely happening mid-year.
As a wise person once said, “The proof is in the pudding.” This is our chance to come together and show the world what’s possible with the tiny yet mighty Nana camera! 📸
Curious about its image quality? Check out some decent results from our recent photowalk here (scroll to the bottom for the photos, in black-and-white).
If you already have a Nana camera, it’s time to get shooting! If you’d like to grab one, you can find it here.
Until then, remember:
Stay Positive, Shoot Negative. 🖤
