Description:

The Nikkormat, released in 1971 were as popular as their bigger brother, the Nikon F and deservedly so. Being built out of a single hefty block of aluminium made these camera near indestructible. Dropping this camera on tiled flooring will mostly result in you calling a tile-setter rather than having to replace your camera. Other than a very well built camera investing in a Nikkormat will give you access to an almost unlimited amount of beautiful Nikon Glass. Making getting a new lens very easy. They are also compatible with all newer AF nikon lenses making it a good option if you already shoot Nikon Digitally.

Focussing is done manually through the very big and bright viewfinder. It uses the best possible focussing method giving you a split screen focussing AND a microprism collar.

Anther good part thing about the Nikkormat's design is where the speed controls are located. Everything is on the front of the camera "around" the lens. In a similar fashion as on the Olympus Om1. This makes it possible to shoot without taking your eyes off the viewfinder as you can simply change to shutter speed and aperture with one hand and without having to look at the top of your camera.

Overall the Nikkormat gives you a great vintage looking and sturdy body. It has all the functions you would be looking for in a professional SLR with access to countless Nikon lenses. It is a perfect alternative for someone wanting to get into the Nikon wold without having to break your bank.

Due to the age of the Nikkormats their light meters tend to be burnt out. Fortunately this is not too much of an issue as these cameras function fine without batteries. This mechanical reliability is one of the main advantages of the Nikkormat Fts. To meter a scene before taking a picture just use an external light-meter or a light-meter app on your phone (we recommend myLightmeter), or alternatively the foolproof 'Sunny-16' rule.
